The Ariens company started manufacturing rotary tillers in the '30s.
The walk-behind models available during the 1940s and early 1950s were:
Model "B" with a 20" tiller unit and a 9hp Wisconsin engine.
Model "C" with a 14" tiller unit and a 7hp Wisconsin engine.
Model "D" with a 26" tiller unit and a 12hp 2 cylinder Wisconsin engine.
Model "G" Gardeneer with a front tiller unit in 10-16" width and a 2.18hp engine.
By the mid to late 1950's Ariens was supplying light, medium and heavy duty tillers to the market.
Light Duty: Ariens Jr. and Ariens Yardster
Medium Duty: Ariens Multimatic in the Deluxe and Standard models.
Heavy Duty: "trans-A-matic" models:
TA-20A with an 8.1 hp Wisconsin and a 20" cut. TA-28B with a 2 cylinder 14.6 hp Wisconsin and a 28" cut.
